Aveda’s eco advances

Aveda has announced that it is the first beauty company to receive “cradle to cradle” certification for four of its botanical ingredients: sandalwood oil from Australia, rose oil and lavender oil from Bulgaria and uruku from Brazil. For beauty and personal care products, the cradle to cradle concept means that ingredients are extracted from natural materials, or “biological nutrients”, that are given back to nature after usage to become part of the ecological cycle.

Meanwhile, Aveda’s primary manufacturing facility in Blaine, Minnesota, USA, is now licensed to produce ECOCERT-certified organic personal care products. The certification enables Aveda to produce organic products certified to ECOCERT’s organic cosmetic standards—and ensures its raw materials, manufacturing facility and practices meet the ECOCERT’s stringent organic standards. Currently, 90 per cent of Aveda’s essential oils and 89 per cent of its raw herbal ingredients are certified organic. Contact: Aveda 1300 300 054.
