Dr Michael Zacharia unveils new rhinoplasty treatment at media launch

[Wed 02/09/2009 10:45:19]

A new, less invasive rhinoplasty (nose “enhancement” surgery) procedure was unveiled last week by leading Sydney cosmetic facial and specialist ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon, Dr Michael Zacharia, at a media launch at Steel Bar and Grill in Sydney.

Dr Zacharia (pictured) was trained in the new rhinoplasty technique under the supervision of leading Beverly Hills “celebrity” surgeon, Dr Bill Binder, during a trip to LA last July. The new technique offers a less invasive way of rotating the tip of the nose to deliver better results and a more natural, refined change, with less swelling and no pinching.

In his presentation, Dr Zacharia noted that cosmetic surgery figures have stayed the same despite economic times. He said minimally invasive surgical and non-surgical treatments are rapidly on the increase because they are affordable and a relatively easy way to enhance facial symmetry. Most treatments are being undertaken in a clinic rather than a hospital, he said.

Overseas surgical trends that Dr Zacharia outlined at the launch included that streamlined noses are in, with rhinoplasty on the increase. Minimally invasive facelifts are also on the increase and cheek and chin implants are popular. Of the non-invasive procedures, Botox still tops the list; with lip enhancements, stem cell skin rejuvenation, hyaluronic acid-based and other dermal fillers, peels and laser skin resurfacing also proving popular. According to Dr Zacharia, these trends have all been supported by recent reports from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

At the media launch, Dr Zacharia demonstrated surgical rules for creating “perfect facial symmetry” using a digital imaging simulator. The launch also introduced his two other treatments, the Vi Peel; which stimulates collagen and elastin production to improve skin tone, texture and clarity, and an Intravenous Vitamin Infusion; a new post-operative treatment to accelerate the recovery process. The infusion contains vitamin C, zinc, vitamin B complex and glutathione and is given to all facelift clients immediately post-operative to facilitate the quick healing of scars and reducing inflammation.

Commenting on current cosmetic surgery trends, Dr Zacharia attributed the growing trend overseas for plastic surgery to the fascination with celebrity and people’s recognition that investing in themselves, inside and out, is often a means of leading a more fulfilling life and getting ahead.

Dr Zacharia is the President of A5M, the AustralAsian Academy of Anti-Ageing Medicine. He owns the Bondi Junction Private Hospital in Sydney and a practice in Darwin. He also consults to practices in Canberra and Brisbane.
