THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Sephora Is COMING.

Not since the first apple superstore opened has the retail world seen anticipation this huge for a store unveiling. And in fifty-three days time, it will come to a head, as the biggest makeup store Australia has ever seen opens in Sydney.

Sephora is coming. Sephora is coming. Sephora is coming.
Sephora is coming. Sephora is coming. Sephora is coming.

Remember when you laughed at your geeky brother, tech-obsessed boyfriend or gadget-loving dad for actually camping out to get a new iPad?

Don’t you look silly now.

Come December, women are set to line the streets of Sydney as long as it takes them, to be amoung the first to taste the sweet nectar that is Sephora.

In case you’ve been living in a cave the last few months, makeup superstore Sephora is on its way to Oz with the promise of a plethora of prestige brands us underprivileged folk in Oz have only been able to dream about getting our hands on (#firstworldproblems), until now. (Cue evil laugh.)

And just in case you’re not convinced of the pulling power of this cosmetic retail giant; Sephora’s Champs-Elysées Paris flagship store alone pulls over 6 million customers a year. Yep, this is huge.

Amoung the brands Sephora’s Aussie customers will be able to get their hands on, are Givenchy Colour, Marc Jacobs Beauty, BECCA, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Make Up Forever, IT Cosmetics and Sephora Collection, which includes a whopping 365 different lipstick shades, so Sephora fans can literally wear a different lip colour for every day of the year.

The biggest question – besides how many nails you’re willing to break to fight off Sephora groupies hogging the makeup counter – is how this powerful new player will affect the salon market.

With professional grade and high end brands now readily accessible and affordable (the store boasts very agreeable price points), and a line of DIY options to rival anything the cosmetics retail world has previously offered, will clients vacate their salon chairs in favour of the one at home?

Only time will tell…

Until then though, we suggest packing at least three days worth of food, a sleeping bag and perhaps some protective clothing for when the doors open.

Have your say: How do you think the opening of Sephora will affect the salon industry?
