More than 300 beauty professionals showed off their skills and talent in the inaugural Sunshine Pro Series Competition in Brisbane last week.
The competitions were held during the third annual Brisbane Hair & Beauty Expo which attracted a record 6120 visitors from around Australia and New Zealand ‒ 20 percent more than last year and more than double the amount in 2015.
According to Expo managing director Jason Greenhalgh, the Sunshine Pro Series “attracted enormous attention as peers went head-to-head for great prizes and most importantly, the prestigious titles”.
He said the four competitions (nail, makeup, lash and hair) in the series “catered to all” by offering 30 categories with student/apprentice and senior/professional divisions.
The hair and nail competitions both saw contestants “truly push themselves creatively presenting in complete outfits to complete their looks” while the makeup competition “attracted makeup industry royalty including Rae Morris and Mia Connor as judges to provide critique and feedback on the amazing talent”.
The lash competition, managed by Brisbane Lashes Salon & Training, was “Australia’s first ever live Lash Competition” with categories in volume, classic and photographic fantasy lash art.
Brisbane Lashes owner Joy Crossingham said “it was an honour and a privilege to help put together” the competition.
“The standard across all divisions was incredibly high and it was great to be able to recognise some of our less know local talent,” she said.
“Thanks to all who entered for believing in themselves and a massive thank you to the amazing sponsors for supporting this monumental event – we cannot wait to do it all again next year!”
