This Laser is Available for Both In-Clinic and At-Home Use: What’s the ROI for Business Owners?

Sara Lavis is the founder and owner of Skin Collective, located in Perth WA. The business plays host to treatments utilising the revolutionary LYMA Laser – available as both an in-clinic and at-home device offering. PB quizzes Sara on the advantages of providing clients both options in the management of ageing skin.

Professional Beauty: Tell us why you opted to invest in the LYMA Laser Pro device for your business?

Sara Lavis: “With a background in emergency nursing, a sizable part of my career has been in an environment that focuses on disease process, rather than prevention. As the skin is just another organ, I’ve seen first-hand that it needs to be nurtured in the same way to mitigate disease. The LYMA Laser PRO (distributed online via the LYMA Professional site) is one of their three products to treat both signs and root cause of skin ageing, which to me is the future of aesthetic medicine.

It’s a very exciting time at Skin Collective, as we are about to go even deeper into skin profiling and epigenetics using DNA testing to create more personalised treatment plans for our clients.”

PB: What makes a client suitable for a LYMA Laser PRO in-clinic treatment?

SL: “The LYMA Laser PRO is extremely versatile in that it can be used as a standalone or dual modality treatment on any Fitzpatrick skin type. Many in-clinic laser treatments are not safe to use on darker skin tones due to the increased risk of scarring, burning, and pigmentation. However, because the LYMA Laser does not heat or damage the skin’s cells at any stage in the process, it’s completely safe no matter what the level of melanin in the skin.

In the clinic, we have noticed the most significant impact using it on skin affected by inflammation. This captures a huge array of skin conditions such as acne, eczema, rosacea, Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH), and diffuse redness, to name a few. Being that skin inflammation is a sign of an immune response in the body, it is important to address this for any long-term resolution to skin conditions There are very few non-invasive treatments tailored to do so, especially that can be used on any Fitzpatrick skin type.

Furthermore, the LYMA is suitable to use for clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding – women who are often limited in their treatment choices during this time, when skin can become its most fussy.”

PB: We understand you have two offerings – in-clinic treatments utilising the LYMA Laser PRO, and a take-home LYMA Laser 500 device available for retail. Outline the key differences between each.

SL: “Both LYMA Lasers work through cold therapy, also known as Lower Level Light Therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation. The process triggers changes on a cellular level, increasing the production of mitochondrial Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) and growth factors to reduce oxidative stress. As we age, our mitochondrial function declines and skin is unable to heal as quickly, loses elasticity, tone becomes uneven, pigmentation amasses, and wrinkles and fine lines start to form. This process in turn leads to better skin cell turnover, regeneration and essential barrier protection.

The LYMA Laser 500 is the company’s original home handheld laser device operating at 500mW power and an 808nm wavelength, making it the only device of its kind. It’s the only clinical-grade laser skincare device FDA and TGA cleared for home use. Due to LLLT resulting in a myriad of effects on tissue repair and healing, this device was rapidly accepted by dermatologists in the US and UK to be used on wrinkles, acne scarring, hypertrophic scarring and in the healing of burns, making it more than just a beauty gadget.

The LYMA Laser PRO was born with in-clinic use in mind and is a supercharged new version of the original housed with three near-infrared 500nmW. This gives three times the power in a lens nearly four times bigger, meaning larger areas can be treated quickly and effectively in less time. This makes it easier to also treat areas on the body such as arms, chest and knees with remarkable results.

Both the Lyma Laser and The Lyma Laser PRO are the only cosmetic lasers with retina technology which allows the delicate eye area to be treated without the need for safety goggles.”

PB: Why have both device offerings? Will using an at-home laser decrease the frequency with which a client undergoes in-clinic laser treatments?

SL: “The LYMA Laser created a new standard of efficacy in the at-home beauty tech category, offering the convenience of clinic-grade treatment at home daily. As a busy mother of two, I understand that living life in the fast lane often means that in-clinic skin treatments are difficult to prioritise. The fact that you don’t need to be a skin professional or book an in-clinic appointment to use it means that consumers can treat skin concerns or maintain skin health at-home, on the move, wherever and whenever they want to.

Skin Collective has always prided itself on empowering its clients to take control over their skin health and general wellbeing, and this means finding ways for individuals that are unable to see us in a clinical setting as frequently as they would like, or the amount their skin might need.

Our in-clinic LYMA Laser treatments are bespoke and use a dual modality approach, ranging from neo lifting techniques, microcurrent and medical-grade peels, to partnering it with cosmetic treatments. We are a science-based clinic that is results-driven and therefore we treat all skin uniquely and tailor every treatment to the individual. Both LYMA Lasers can be safely used daily, so the frequency of in-clinic treatments is rather determined by the client’s skin condition, desired skin endpoint and timeline. This is why for us, offering both was essential.”

PB: Overall, do you anticipate a positive ROI investing in both the in-clinic device and the retail device?

SL: “Defining whether the LYMA Laser 500 will be an investment for you depends on the results you’re expecting and the commitment you’re willing to put in. With anything, consistency really is key. To achieve results at home, you will need to carve out 15-20 minutes each day for the first three months, and at a price point of $USD2499 ($AUD3718.20) it’s no secret that this is a luxury item for most individuals. Knowing this price point, I really needed the product to work for me to want to invest in it and hopefully see an ROI. Ultimately, I feel the investment is in using a device with the science to alter the trajectory of skin ageing.

After personally using the LYMA Laser 500 consistently for three months, I have truly seen incredible benefits for my skin. I’ve noticed a significant improvement of my overall skin texture, as well as an improvement of jowls and jawline sculpting, leaving my skin glowing every day. On this basis, I’d say there’s been an incredible ROI in using the at-home retail device.

I want everyone to be able to experience the LYMA Laser technology for themselves, so I have priced in-clinic treatments starting from $300, making it an accessible treatment for those who aren’t quite ready to commit to the at-home device.”
