In honour of the its 30th anniversary, Aveda’s global fundraising goal for its Earth Month 2009 is to raise USD$3 million during the month of April for global and local organisations working to support and preserve clean water. Last year, Aveda exceeded its 2008 Earth Month goal of USD$2.3 million by raising USD$2.8 million for clean water projects. Today, the Aveda network has raised over USD$11 million for environmental causes through its annual Earth Month campaigns.
2009 Earth Month projects include their limited edition candle Light the Way soy wax candle sold during April to raise funds and awareness for clean water rights across the globe. This year’s candle features a new, French-inspired stress-relieving aroma with 100 per cent EcoCert certified organic ingredients, including lavender, lavandin and clary sage sourced from the south of France and housed in award-winning environmentally responsible packaging. By purchasing the AUD$19.95 Light the Way candle, consumers can support Aveda’s global efforts to help make clean water a human right and help raise USD$1,000,000 if all candles are sold. Aveda will donate 100 per cent of the proceeds to its global Earth Month partner, Global Greengrants Fund.
Internationally, Aveda also conducted a “cat-walkathon” at New York’s Fashion Week in February and is also conducting a fundraising Walk for Water campaign throughout cities in the USA, the UK and Europe on Sunday, April 26, 2009. The walk is six kilometers long – the average distance that women in developing countries walk to collect water per day.
Davina Adams, Marketing & PR Assistant for Aveda Australia said that locally, Aveda aims to raise AUD$28,000 through candle sales as well as other fundraising events, including the Walk for Water, which will be held in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney on Sunday April 19.
