Calling all beauties – can you go a month without alcohol?

Earlier this year, beauty and lifestyle writer Shonagh Walker and Sukin Brand Manager Lindsay Quanborough discussed the pros and cons of a month without alcohol. Not only did the health benefits outweigh the indulgence, they agreed to simultaneously detox and raise awareness and funds by participating in Dry July.

They have registered two teams known as ‘The Beauties’ at www.dryjuly.com and are encouraging all beauty industry professionals and socialites to join in and help make a difference.

Beauty writers, specialists, bloggers, managers and marketers from all titles and brands are welcome and encouraged to take part.

Dry July is about clearing your head, getting healthier, challenging yourself, encouraging positive change and a healthy attitude towards alcohol consumption.

The challenge is quite simple: one month without alcohol.

What’s more, friends and family can sponsor you and even buy you a ‘golden ticket’ to have the night off, if you simply cannot escape the urge.

All funds raised will go to selected hospitals and directly benefit the lives of adults living with cancer.

In 2010, more than 9,500 supporters embraced a Dry July to raise over $2.4million in funds distributed across 10 hospitals Australia-wide. In 2011, the program has expanded to offer support to 13 hospitals.

Two teams for “The Beauties” have been set up so that funds raised can be assigned to The Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation in Sydney and The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne.

These funds will help to maintain individual programs in each location and offer support, such as new chemotherapy chairs, treatment beds, exercise equipment and patient journals.

Get on board now and join ‘The Beauties’ team of your choice. You can also find factsheets, motivational posters and even recipes for some delicious mocktails.
