Hair Expo Australia is once again on the search for the greatest up-and coming talent to be part of the gala event in 2013. In its third year running, the GenNext Project will provide the opportunity for five young hairdressers to be mentored by one of the country’s greatest educators and put together a collaborative show at the Sunday night GenNext Gala in June.
The joint initiative between Hair Expo and consecutive Educator of the Year, Sharon Blain, has kicked off with a country-wide search for the five lucky
stylists. Through a three-minute video entry, budding participants will need to show their enthusiasm and creativity. However, no previous show experience is required. Entries are open until Thursday 31 January 2013 and judges will be looking for the most inspiring entries that show a combination of both motivation and talent.
Once chosen, the five artists will attend a workshop in Sydney, where they will be taught by Sharon and her Art of Hair team about all aspects of hair shows – from the approach, to creative vision and technical aspects of a successful production. Both Hair Expo and Excellent Edges are contributing to the cost of choreography, styling and video production, while Sharon will help to find savvy ways to put the show together. All members of the GenNext Project team will also take home an Excellent Edges scissor kit to the value of $5,000.
The two-day workshop coincides with the Hair Expo Awards Finalist Cocktail Party, where all finalists in the annual awards at Hair Expo will be announced. Here, the group will get the chance to meet and rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in the Australian hairdressing business.
Then, on Sunday 9 June, the GenNext Project team will take part in what is one of the most energetic and vibrant shows over the Hair Expo weekend. At the GenNext Gala, they will get the chance show off their creative talent to an audience of over 1,200 peers and both local and international media.
