A year after launching Botox and dermal filler services in its London flagship store, Superdrug has expanded its injectable services to a third store in a bid to meet growing demand.
The health and beauty retailer, which has 900 retail outlets (including 200 with pharmacies) in the UK and Ireland, launched its Skin Renew Service at its store in The Strand in August last year, and then extended the service to its Manchester Piccadilly outlet in April this year.
The retailer has now launched the Skin Renew Service into its Hammersmith store – and plans to roll out to even more stores in the next few years.
Superdrug head of health and wellbeing services Caris Newson told ChemistandDruggist.co.uk that the company has “seen high levels of customer satisfaction” since the service was launched to meet “customer demand for anti-wrinkle and skin rejuvenation treatments”.
“We know from our research among 10,000 customers that feeling confident about how you look is linked to a person’s wellbeing, and that’s different for all of us,” she said.
“For some it might mean having their eyebrows threaded or getting their nails done, for others taking new vitamins or getting fitter, or it might be about smoothing out fine lines.”
Despite “customer demand” for the services, the NHS was not impressed with the launch and demanded that Superdrug conduct “medically responsible” checks on its customers before treating them.
In January Superdrug began screening customers for mental health problems.
According to the retailer, nurses specialising in aesthetic medicine undertake an hour-long “full and extensive consultation” (including questions specific to body dysmorphic disorder) with customers seeking anti-ageing treatments such as Botox.
“This enables us to ensure we understand our patients’ reasons for wanting aesthetic treatments. It also flags to our team any risks or concerns related to a patient’s mental health…
“If a nurse practitioner has any concerns about the patient’s mental health, they will refer them to their GP.”
Available only to people aged over 25, consultations for Skin Renew Service can only be booked by phoning a dedicated customer service team ‒ not by simply walking into a store.
The treatments, with prices starting at £99 for Botox, are performed in a private consultation room” rather than on the shop floor “with the other beauty services”.
