Of the many treatments that customers will be flocking to book in for come June 1, experts predict that Fraxel will be near the top of the list. Given that the last few months have seen customers not venture far from home, and their at-home skin therapies fairly limited, Fraxel will be appealing in its ability to create fast results, with close to no downtime.
Fraxel fractionated laser resurfacing addresses seven key facets of facial ageing. Fraxel laser resurfacing was one of the first on the market, and over the decades has refined its technology, continuing to be a leader in the laser rejuvenation field. Modern day Fraxel is comfortable, quick and gets maximum results with minimal downtime. After the treatment, our patients begin to notice reduction of precancerous sun damage (actinic keratosis) that can lead to sun cancer, pigmentation and sun spots are eliminated. Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced and skin texture and condition is improved. Facial, neck and chest/décolletage skin feels tighter while pore size is reduced.
While the results are obviously a huge drawcard for the treatment, according to Diane Lehto, skin therapist at The Sharp Clinic, educating the customer is one of the most important factors contributing to the success of Fraxel.
According to Diane, customers often have pre-conceived ideas about the treatment that will often see them ether avoid it, or hold out until a certain time. For example, The Sharp Clinic sees bookings for Fraxel mostly in the Winter months, give that many customers believe it’s too risky to have it done in the heat of Summer. Diane says the season has very little impact. “In many parts of Australia our midday UV rate doesn’t dip below damaging levels all year round so waiting until winter to have a Fraxel can give you a false sense of security that it’s safe to step outside without protection just because the weather is chilly,” says Diane. “It is important all year round to take care of our skin by investing in an SPF50 sunscreen to maintain your new skin glow and prevent future sun damage to the skin.”
Similarly, Diane says many customers are put off the treatment because they believe the after-care is too intense. Conversely, Diane says post-Fraxel skin is simple to care for. “During the first phase of healing we want to keep the skin moist, hydrated and protect it from the sun. Patients should avoid any direct sun exposure on the treated area to ensure their skin is able to heal from the laser without the added trauma or damage of uncontrolled UV exposure. Within the initial phase post treatment the skin will appear to be sunburned. Within 48 hours it will have a brown grainy appearance and in the subsequent 24-48 hours it will start to flake and shed. “It’s extremely important not to peel, rub or itch – our skin knows what to do and it’s important to let nature take its course in order to achieve the best results.”
