Melbourne-based college Elite Hair & Makeup Academy participated in the Cosmopolitan Model Management Search finals, allowing students to get hands-on in industry hair and makeup.
Providing essential industry work experience, students from Elite Hair & Makeup Academy in Melbourne were given the opportunity to style 20 models at the Cosmopolitan Model Management Search finals.
Justine Poniris, the director of Elite Hair & Makeup Academy believes in enriching her students with real experience that will equip them for the fast-paced and competitive industry after graduation. The Academy is involved with several annual events aimed at providing her students with a wider range of experiences.
“The Cosmopolitan Model Search comes under the same brand as Miss Universe Australia and as great fans of our work, they invited us to provide hair and makeup services for not only the model search, but also the Miss Universe Semi-finals in Melbourne and the Miss Tourism Australia Awards last year,” according to Justine.
Justine’s students love being a part of these events, it strengthens their portfolio and connects them with other industry professionals.
“The students get very excited in the lead-up to major events as they appreciate the opportunity to put what they’ve learnt into practice,” said Justine, “we often get emails from current and past students detailing how much they’ve gained from doing these events.”
Wanting her students to leave with more than a certificate, Justine “throws them into the deep end and get them working in real life situations, on different faces and under pressure,” she said.
“This kind of experience is pivotal in building their confidence – a makeup artist’s confidence is essential to achieving great work,” Justine added.
This August, students will go backstage at the Ted Baker collection review and style all hair and makeup.
