What better way to mark Earth Day this month than to plant more trees? 15 billion trees are cut down a year and 11 billion are never replaced says global reforestation non-profit One Tree’s website, the organization Edible Beauty Australia has partnered with to plant a tree for every order placed on their site in April.
Place an order, plant a tree
With Edible Beauty’s month-long event, every order placed across all product categories — skincare products, teas, tonics, beauty tools, and protein powders qualify with no minimum spends — results in a new tree being planted. “We’re hoping to plant over 1,500 trees this month,” says Owner and Founder, Founder, Naturopath and Nutritionist, Anna Mitsios. “I have become more conscious of the detrimental impact the cosmetic world has on our ecosystem,” says Mitsios, “and whilst always being a responsible beauty brand have wanted to take this to the next level by being involved in rebuilding and regeneration our forests.
Edible Beauty are likely to continue to run with this initiative in the future, making it ongoing after this month. Customers have been incredibly happy with this initiative, they have commented on it being another reason why they like the brand and the fact that we are ahead of the game with inspiring intentions.”
Ultraceuticals buys a farm
Aussie cosmeceutical brand Utraceuticals has launched a long-term reforestation project, buying a swath of forest outside of Canberra. Utraceuticals has purchased a portion of a forest on 114 acres of former farmland that’s covered with approximately 20,000 trees. They’ll work to plant native species with the country’s treasured animals in mind, creating special wildlife corridors and ample water storage (dams) for Australian natives to frequent. The forest is now home to kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, wallabies and many other native animals and birds.
The brand has partnered with Impact International, a local, family-owned tube manufacturer whose world-first sustainable forest initiative is designed to help protect Australian wildlife, whilst reducing the carbon footprint of their packaging. Ultraceuticals Marketing Director Xuan Henderson says “we were attracted to Impact International’s forest initiative as we are also on our journey to becoming more environmentally responsible and always looking at ways to support Australia’s conservation, minimise our carbon footprint and help protect our valued flora and fauna that makes us quintessentially Australian.
There is a strong and positive movement towards consumers becoming more aware and choosing brands that have adopted more environmentally sustainable practices from source materials, to choosing manufacturers that are aligned with this same value. This is certainly at the forefront of our minds with everything that we do, and we are thrilled to be part of this movement to minimise our footprint for Australia’s cleaner future.”
Ten years of Tree Planting Day
South Australian brand Jurlique isn’t launching a tree-planting initiative this month but it will mark the 10-year anniversary of its Tree Planting Day this year, with the day to plant set to be 9 July 2021.
The brand is also growing 3,000 seedlings at the South Australia farm right now to donate to local bushfire-affected communities come June.
