Alfie Sadsad, lead artist for Bobbi Brown at Yeojin Bae, says the look was raw, natural and reminiscent of Bobbi Brown’s original look.
Celebrating ten years as a brand, this Yeojin Bae Resort Collection 2017, called Contemplation, offers a chic, athletic mood with architectural silhouettes. Modern, classic and beautiful, the makeup followed suit with an elegant, nude look that was utterly flawless.
“The look is all about being very raw, very natural, very Bobbi,” says Alfie Sadsad, lead makeup artist for Bobbi Brown on the show.
Makeup was “pared down to its bare bones” says Sadsad. Foundation was kept to a minimum in favour of tinted moisturiser and a touch-up here and there where needed. It was also a chance to see two products that the makeup brand is set to launch next season – the Skin Foundation Stick, and Retouching Powder.
“It is all about the retouching,” says Sadsad. “We used retouching wands and pencils to conceal, to brighten, or to highlight anything that is dull, or anything that is red. It’s really going back to the Bobbi basic look.”
Eyes were kept natural with “just the tiniest amount of mascara used just to tint the ends” says Sadsad. Long Wear Gel Eyeliner was used to “tightline underneath the lash line”, while brows were kept nude apart from a brush up using clear brow gel – “to make the look more youthful”. Lips were nourished with lip balm then left bare and slightly pink. “It’s all about nourished lips,” says Sadsad.
Nails followed the chicly natural vibe. Cleopatra Tucker, lead nail director for the show, used Faby Nail lacquer to create the matte, nude nails.
“The nails were nude with a matte top coat,” says Tucker. “On the hands we applied a sheer, soft pink – on the toes, it’s a more fawny coloured pink.”
Instead of glossy shine, Tucker opted for a raw-feeling matte. “The matte top coat gives a chic, fashion finish that’s more exciting than just being your everyday nude manicure,” says Cleopatra Tucker. “It also really complements the Yeojin Bae collection, which is very classic and modern.”
