Nails go Egyptian luxe at The Blonds Spring/Summer 2016 New York show. Get ready for requests for decadence…
If you have a client who wants to take their nail art to the next level, look to the gilded and bejewelled creations by CND, which graced The Blonds S/S 2016 runway at New York Fashion Week this week.
Inspired by Cleopatra and the riches of Ancient Egypt, these nails were pure, glistening decadence. CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold says that sculpting and nail enhancement are having a revival so be sure to stock your kit with antiqued metallic shades, crystals, foils, chains and jewels – your clients are going to be asking for super luxe nails this season.
“This show was the perfect opportunity to explore new techniques and discover the next wave of [nail art],” says Jan Arnold of her long-standing partnership with The Blonds. “Tying in with CND’s Summer 2016 trend story, we incorporated romantic layers of texture for a delicate, refined glamour.”
Royal golden tones dominated the colour palette, while accents of blue, turquoise, red and green added decadent texture and dimension. CND artists constructed intricate hieroglyphics, snake and crocodile skins, gold-plated wings, draped head dresses and scarab with materials such as feathers, foils, ribbons, chains, gems, jewels and stones. One nail creation opened up to reveal a mummified pharaoh wearing the golden locks of designer Phillipe Blond.
“The CND team never ceases to amaze us with their unique creative vision,” says The Blonds designer Phillipe Blond. “If we can dream it, they can bring it to life. The nails are an integral part of our overall story. Seeing it all come to life on the runway is incredible.”
This incredible display of nail artistry took a staggering 600+ combined hours of production. This is decadence at its best.
