Cosmoprof breaks records

Cosmoprof Asia attracted a record breaking 87,284 visitors from 135 countries and regions to Hong Kong this month.

According to organisers, the 23rd edition of Cosmoprof exceeded expectations to retain its distinctive position as “the ultimate meeting point for beauty professionals, industry insiders and innovative brands in Asia”.

Cosmoprof Asia director David Bondi said he was delighted with the Fair’s success.

“This year’s visitor numbers, fair exhibitors and products confirm what the global trends are telling us, that as an industry beauty and cosmetics are not only continually pushing the boundaries of innovation and science, but also that the Asia market is full of savvy consumers keen to understand and invest in cutting-edge products,” he said.

“We are delighted that this record-breaking year brought together more exhibitors, attendees and business than ever before, to both our AsiaWorld-Expo and Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre venues, and trend forecasts suggest 2019 will continue building on this year’s success.”

The fair, featuring 3030 exhibitors from 53 countries and regions, was held at two separate venues from November 13 to 16 − Cosmopack Asia at AsiaWorld-Expo and Cosmoprof Asia at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Cosmopack Asia hosted 903 exhibitors from the beauty industry supply chain (including raw materials, ingredients, machinery and packaging while Cosmoprof Asia hosted 2127 exhibitors of finished beauty products (including perfume, cosmetics, and hair and nail products).

Highlights included

SKINTONIC – The Factory’ allowed visitors to observe the entire manufacturing process of an exclusive dual-effect serum from the production of the serum to the packaging process. Emphasising “the perfect combination of innovation and technology”, The Factory was created with the help of Citus Kalix (machinery and equipment), Homer Printing (deluxe folding cardboard box), LTU-Tech (the image recognition app), Pinkfrogs Cosmetics (the formulation), Quadpack (packaging) and Centdegrés (artistic direction and design of the project).

COSMOLAB enabled visitors to interact with an AI (Artificial Intelligence) robot that captured analytics based on hair types and other features to create a unique formulated shampoo sample (40ml) as a personalised gift.

The Natural & Organic Zone presented green, eco-friendly, organic products from around the world and featured a Natural & Organic Symposium with talks on trending topics like sustainability and opportunities in organic certification.

CosmoTalks discussed the latest product trends, market updates and regulations with a particular focus on the growth of the Chinese market and new opportunities such as “the development of e-commerce in the country”.

SKINTONIC – The Shop previewed ‘what’s next for retail distribution in the Asia-Pacific region’ with a concept store of the future. Following on from the SKINTONIC – The Factory display, The Shop combined elements of virtual and augmented reality as well as IoP (Internet of Product) to let visitors “discover, test and take away their own exclusive skincare serum”.

The Hong Kong Professional Nailist Union Competition 2018 attracted over 200 contestants from around the world.

BOUTIQUE offered visitors the opportunity to support Cosmoprof Asia’s charity by purchasing a gift bag filled with their choice of seven travel-size products from 10 exhibiting companies for HKD100. Proceeds from the initiative are donated to the Chi Heng Foundation, a Hong Kong-based charity dedicated to addressing children impacted by AIDS and to AIDS prevention and education.

The 2019 edition of Cosmoprof Asia will be held from November 12 to 15.
