Australia’s Inika Organic has become the first “100 percent natural” makeup brand to create runway looks at New York Fashion Week.
The brand was behind the looks of not one but two high-profile designers ‒ Tadashi Shoji and House of Nonie, at the international event.
Speaking on her return from New York, Inika’s global communications manager Viv Foulsum said that “after a great deal of interest” the brand chose to work with two designers who embrace a move towards cruelty-free and vegan fashion.
“Both shows featuring Inika Organic makeup artistry were completely free from fur and feathers, with the House of Nonie show being 100 percent vegan,” she said.
Tadashi Shoji
Inika created a bold glittery look for the galactic-inspired runway from American-based, Japanese designer Tadashi Shoji.
“Spring 2019 is inspired by going to space and the feeling of hope, because the future is bright,” he said.
Inika’s lead makeup artist, Pep Gay brought this vision to life with “a fresh approach and new techniques”.
“This Inika Organic look has been inspired by the beauty and vastness of the galaxy,” he said.
“There is Pink Poppy on the lips and also across the cheeks to create consistency in the colour palette and the nourishing Lip Serum has been used to affix the biodegradable glitter without glue or harsh chemicals.”
House of Nonie
Inika created a Meghan Markle-inspired look for Canadian designer, Nina Kharey’s House of Nonie show which paid homage to “Ms Markle’s effortless style and grace”.
New York based, Australian makeup artist, Campbell Ritchie took the lead to help design the classically-modern look that was featured at the show.
Campbell, a cruelty-free makeup artist who is also a vegan, was delighted to create the look using 100 percent natural and ethical organic products.
“I made the hard decision last year to get rid of every single product in my kit that wasn’t cruelty-free or that was too synthetic,” he said.
“I now only embrace brands that I truly believe in, and Inika Organic has the perfect range to create this regal look.
“Every model’s skin was glowing with luminosity and vitality, and all of the girls were saying how much they loved having a natural product on their skin, especially since it created this iconic and glamorous look.”
Foulsum said Inika is very happy with all the attention the brand had garnered during NYFW – on an off the catwalk.
“Inika Organic believes in the value of steady progress towards the vegan space that we are so passionate about,” she said.
“As a team, we aimed to bring the cruelty-free and vegan movement to the forefront at Fashion Week.”
