Show these images to the next insecure client that lands in your salon.
We’ve all had clients complaining that one ear is slightly higher up than the other, or that their perfectly acceptable nose isn’t quite in the centre of their face. But while it’s generally accepted that a symmetrical face means a beautiful one, a new art project is shaking things up and encouraging us to celebrate the quirks that make us, us.
US fashion photographer Alex John Beck has set out to challenge the idea that balance=beauty with his Both Sides Of art series. By digitally altering images of his models, Beck presents symmetrical versions of the right and left sides of their face.
The result? A collection of images that show how different each side of the face can be, and how our inconsistencies and asymmetry give our faces a sense of character and complexity. In other words, if we were all symmetrical, the world—and the beauty industry—would be a pretty boring place.
As corny as it sounds, telling your clients to accept themselves, asymmetry and all, is the best treatment you can give.
