Meryll Faulkner, Creator and Co-ordinator of The Art of Makeup Awards, held annually at the International Spa and Beauty Expo, said the calibre of this year’s competition entrants was “exceptional”.
Each year makeup artists from all over Australia line up to compete in The Art of Makeup Awards; Australia’s largest independent make up competition.
Faulkner, Principal and Owner of Making Faces Make-up Studio, ensures the entrants are judged by qualified makeup directors from television, theatre and film. Entrants are given free reign to create some of the most awe-inspiring Bridal and Fantasy makeup looks that in the past, have been known to impress some of the most renowned experts in the field.
This year’s awards had a Broadway Musical inspired theme for the Fantasy category and Classic Bridal for the Bridal Category.
“These awards are a fantastic way to profile and recognise Australia’s talented freelance makeup artists,” said Faulkner. “Our competitors for 2009 were exceptional. The standard was so high that the judges found it quite difficult to make their final decision.”
