Not only did songstress Adele win a Golden Globe on stage, but she also took out a top rating for her gorgeous red carpet look. Maria Gabriel, creative director for Make Up Store Australia, shares her tips for how to re-create this classic makeup look.
It’s all about creating statement eyes and flawless skin for this look. First step is to prime the skin and eyes. For the skin use Skin Serum which helps create a smooth canvas for applying makeup. Around the eyes opt to use an Eye Primer which is specially formulated to help ensure your colours remain vibrant and the creases in your eyelids do not absorb your makeup.
Next apply Microshadow ‘Muffin’ as the base on the eyelids to create a shimmery, neutral colour. To add some contouring to the eye makeup apply Blush in ‘Posh’ through the eyelids and globe line, followed by Microshadow ‘Cashmere’ through the middle of the eyelids.
For the dramatic black lines, apply Liquid Eyeliner ‘Black’ along the lashline, taking the line quite wide – this may mean applying a few layers. Following the eyeliner, apply Eyelashes ‘Small’, which will not only add volume, but also create the illusion of fuller lashes. Apply Drama Mascara for an extra wow factor.
To finish the eyes, run Eye Pencil ‘Vanilla’ along the inner waterline, this will help to make the eyes appear more open and reduce redness.
To frame the dramatic eye makeup, it is important to ensure brows are looking full and any patchiness has been filled using the Tri Brow palette; or in the case of Adele the Duo Brow, which is best for blondes and red heads.
Next step is to create the flawless base. Apply Matt Foundation, which helps to prevent any shine showing up on the skin, and conceal where required using the Cover All Mix wheel.
To highlight, run Microshadow ‘Muffin’ along the cheekbones and then apply Blush in ‘Posh’ on the apples of the cheek to add some warmth.
Lips are kept neutral, allowing the eyes to make the true statement for the look. Outline and blend through the lips with Lip Pencil ‘Read My Lips’, then apply Lipstick ‘Survivor’ for a hint of shine.
