From bohemian beauty to rock chick, The Victoria Room in Darlinghurst was transformed last week to showcase M.A.C Cosmetics latest trends and upcoming collections. The elegant room was given a gypsy-style makeover with colourful decorations and quirky accessories, carefully placed on tables to accompany the latest product launches.

While media enjoyed cocktails and canapés, M.A.C senior artist Nicole Thompson showed guests a backstage film that summarised the four key makeup trends seen on the runway at Paris, London, New York and Berlin fashion weeks. These trends were Sense & Sensibility, Roam-antique, Hone Structure and Arti-tech.
During the film renowned M.A.C makeup artists including Terry Barber, Lyne Desnoyers, Gordon Espinet, James Molloy and Andrew Gallimore gave insight into the looks and how to create them.
Following the introduction, Thompson and M.A.C trainer Ocea Ferber demonstrated the four looks on models. Starting with Sense and Sensibility, Ferber explained this elegant, polished look in which skin is kept fresh, eyebrows are concealed to create a soft-focus lens look and the eyes are kept simple with the focus being on bold red lips.

The Roam-antique look is for bohemian beauties. Rich chocolate browns, wines, metallics and gold are back in fashion. In stark contrast to the Sense and Sensibility look, the brow was bold, straight and boyish. Thompson's finished look was a sultry take on autumnal colours.

Hone Structure focused on highlight and contouring and Ferber explained how to get the best from the face and where to add highlight and shadow. Ferber started her contouring in the corner of the eyes and swept it all the way to the cheekbone. M.A.C’s BB cream can be used as the perfect sculpting tool and the shimmer eyeshadow was used to add light to the eyelids, cheekbone, nose and cupid's bow.

The focus of the final look, Archi-tech, is simply eyeliner. Forget about flicks and winged looks, M.A.C have come up with some new contemporary ways to use eyeliner. These include straight lines, thorns, slanted rectangles and aerodynamic shapes. Thompson's take on the look was very Rock Chick with bold, rectangular lines.

Following the demonstrations, guests headed to the tables to play with key products from each of the looks. Guests also took away a big trends book full of the latest looks recently created by M.A.C makeup artists at international fashion shows.
