Time is running out for makeup and nail artists who want to compete in this year’s Nailympia Australia and Face2Face Makeup Awards.
Entry to both competitions, which will judged during Beauty Expo Australia in Sydney on August 26-27, close this Monday (August 7).
Expo event director Julia Erben said the expo is calling on those who demonstrate the utmost skill in makeup and nail artistry to enter the esteemed beauty competitions.
Nailympia Australia
Held in association with Nailympia London, Nailympia Australia allows nail technicians to showcase their talents to a panel of 15 judges including Nailympia London organiser Alex Fox.
This year’s competition categories are:
- Soak off gel polish: Natural nails are enhanced and covered with a soak-off gel product. One hand has to be finished in a solid red colour and the other in a traditional French manicure style.
- Liquid & Powder Acrylic Sculpture & Tips/Overlay: Sculpture on the right hand and tips/overlay on the left.
- Salon nails (one hand): ‘Everyday nails for the everyday client’ created with L&P acrylic, UV hard gel or fiberglass/silk (No DIP system or gel polish to be used).
- Stiletto nails: Sculpted on forms, nails can be made using liquid and powder acrylic or hard gel systems.
- Reality nail art: An open freestyle competition for commercial salon nail art designs
- Fantasy nail art: 10 separate tips to adhere to 10 nails during the competition.
- 3d (mixed media): Nails are to be designed on varying sized nail tips and placed in a display case in the arena.
- Photographic nail art: This year’s theme is ‘medieval fantasy’.
Face2Face Makeup Awards
The Face2Face Makeup Awards reward “extraordinary makeup artists for their craft, creativity and passion”. Judged by a panel of “prominent industry icons”, the awards can act as “a launch-pad to propel makeup artists to the next level in their careers”.
This year’s competition categories are:
- Bridal – The Modern Bride
- Fashion Catwalk – Trend Prediction: Makeup inspired by the trends predicted to be seen on the runways in 2018.
- Body Art – Art Is Life: A full body paint inspired by an artist or artists (a painter, sculptor, musician, etc).
- Creative Makeup – The Club Kids of Sydney: “The Club Kids were a group of young New York City dance club personalities led by Michael Alig and James St. James in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The group was notable for its members’ flamboyant behaviour and outrageous costumes.” (Wikipedia) In this new category, artists will create a modern ‘Club Kid of Sydney’ including creative makeup on the face and décolletage.
- Beauty Editorial – My Beauty Brand: Artists are asked to imagine they are about to launch their own makeup brand, and create the first two images that will advertise their brand in the pages of elite glossy magazines.
Beauty Expo Australia 2017 will be held on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August at the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC) in Sydney.
