M.A.C redefined the elegant punk at the Ellery Spring Summer show.
Nomadic, rebellious and inspired by the ancient religion of Zoroastrian, the Ellery Spring Summer collection was an opulent mix of rich textures and modest cuts in a palette of black and washed out neutrals.
Modernising the concept behind the clothes, M.A.C, led by James Molloy, translated this season’s Ellery girl into a ‘precision punk’. The look began with supple soft skin and finished with striking black liner in two parallel stokes.
“The Ellery girl this season is a little bit of a punky tomboy. We’ve done a straight liner, not ‘pretty’ but just like she’s worn it in. For the skin we used Softening Lotion for hydration – we pressed that on at the end of all the makeup so it’s very worn in. It’s the ‘morning after’ look as opposed to the ‘night before’, so she has lived in it,” James said.
“It’s not about foundation, it’s not about coverage. We’re just using a bit of concealer where the girls need it, taking away any redness. The Ellery girl always has a bit of roughness to her, which is why we went with the idea of boyish punk girls.”
