Question: What does a manicurist love more than nail polish? Answer: Coffee. This new nail polish mug art trend is a great way to satisfy both cravings.
If you need a new use for your nail polishes and you’re feeling a bit creative post holiday madness, perhaps get into this new trend of garnishing your coffee mug with your favourite shade of nail polish.
Part marbling, part children’s craft, this is a great way to get rid of any leftover polish that you can’t bear to throw out completely.
First, start with a plastic disposable container of warm water at least five centimetres deep. Next, add a swirl of polish into the water and blow gently to disperse the colour. Then, working quickly, take a plain white mug, and move it in a circular motion around the water to pick up the colour. If you want to add more than one colour, use a skewer to swirl the colours together before dipping in your mug.
To seal the colour to the mug, spray with a clear acrylic sealant spray.
The effect is quite beautiful and means you can look at your favourite shades even if you’re not wearing them on your hands. The only downside? They aren’t dishwasher or microwave safe so you’ll be hand washing ’em. Sorry.
