Advising clients on the importance of nail healthy is best done from a salon chair.
It’s well documented that nail health can signify our general health, so how we manage the cuticles of our clients has far more than just aesthetic purpose. The good news is the number-one tool for a healthy set of nails is constant and consistent management and care, so feel free to put that in your client newsletter!
The following advice may have your clients thanking you for a vigorous set of digits:
- The first step to healthy nails is to let go of bad habits. Biting or picking nails may be a habit your client has had since childhood, but it can cause a lifetime of damage. Psychologically, it is recommended your client focus on the problem, making a conscious effort to stop. Other techniques such as chewing gum, keeping hands busy or covering nails could do the trick.
- Ultimately the best combative force is a regular manicure, which can act as a reward for good client nail behaviour. Bold colours may alert your client to their habit in time to stop.
- Keeping the nails dry and clean is a must, while cutting the nails straight across may also improve their vitality. Regular trimming, filing and moisturising will keep your client’s nails at their best, so increase their time between appointments and be sure to retail them the appropriate home care.
- Lastly, cuticles are the key to success. Keep them moisturised and don’t over-manipulate them. In fact, the cuticles are so delicate it is best clients stay well away — only allowing you to work on them.
The best defence is a good offence. Maintaining regular salon sessions is a fool-proof way to keep your clients’ nails in good health. Be sure to alert them to the necessity of a healthy set of nails and just how to maintain that, courtesy of you, the professional.
