As a contrast to the bold nail-art on runways in the previous seasons, OPI created nudes and neutrals that dominated the catwalks of the 2013 New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Day 1: BCBGMAXAZRIA and Candela
OPI kicked off Fashion Week this year with BCBGMAXAZRIA at Lincoln Center. The BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring Summer collection was a mixture of summer breeze and light femininity. Intricate patterns and soft textures caressed the model’s figures, paying homage to carefree summer days.
The OPI team was led by OPI Lead Manicurist, Renee Meyers, who chose to use the shade ‘Samoan Sand’ – a soft and glossy neutral nude, on all the models.
The second show for OPI was Candela, a collection inspired by a nautical fairytale: the story of a woman cast-away. The clothes featured mermaid-like lengths, bright embroidery, tropical ruffles and feminine lace.
Gabi Perezutti from OPI created a natural glossy nude pink using OPI’s ‘Barre My Soul’ on fingers and toes. The colour has a warm pink undertone that complemented Candela’s semi-sheer, lacy and embellished garments.
Day 2: Jenni Kayne and Houghton
OPI joined California designer Jenni Kayne on the second day in a show that displayed spectacular masculine tailoring mixed with textured leather and layered whites. Geometry was conveyed through the cuts and folds of the clothing, contrasted against vintage warm tones.
The clean slate lines and neutral colour palette was extended to the nails. OPI created a manicure using the neutral hue ‘Don’t Pretzel My Buttons’ paired with a striking white moon using ‘Alpine Snow’.
Glowing femininity returned later in the afternoon with Houghton’s Spring Summer collection. In an afternoon garden-party inspired show, the models strutted down in cotton whites, subtle florals and vintage tailoring.
Giving a girly twist to the look, OPI used ‘Theodora You’ on fingers and toes. A pastel pink with gloss finish, the nails complemented the models’ baby pink cheeks and sheer pink lips.
