Aveda honours Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Aveda is raising awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) with a limited edition Hand Relief in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

A rich hand creme that helps soften and smooth hands while diminishing the visible signs of aging, Hand Relief has remained an Aveda top seller since its launch in 1998.

The limited edition Hand Relief sold for Breast Cancer Awareness Month is specially packaged in a 150ml tubeand features a limited edition pink ribbon design. The packaging also reminds guests of their annual breast exam in an effort to emphasise the importance of early detection.

During the month of October, Aveda will donate $4 from the sale of each Breast Cancer Awareness Hand Relief (RRP $44.95) to the BCRF. In alignment with Aveda’s mission and cruelty-free policy, Aveda’s breast cancer awareness donations are directed to non-animal testing research projects to explore the environmental causes and links to breast cancer.

This year, Aveda’s fundraising goal is US$300,000—which will be achieved if every limited edition pink-capped Hand Relief is sold. To date, Aveda has donated more than US$1.5 million to BCRF to support cruelty-free research through the sale of the BCA Hand Relief.

Estee Lauder’s (ELC) commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness dates back to 1993, when Evelyn H. Lauder founded the BCRF, the first and largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding groundbreaking research on the causes of and treatment for breast cancer.

Since its founding, the organisation has raised more than $237 million, with more than 90% of all funds going directly to breast cancer research grants and awareness programs to increase prevention and find a cure. In 2009, ELC raised more than $5 million for the BCRF, which raised nearly $40 million.

Due to the support of generous BCRF partners like Aveda, an expanded Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York opened for patients in 2009. The center meets medical and non-medical needs of breast cancer patients, as well as those who may be at higher-than-average risk for the disease. www.aveda.com
