In news set to revolutionise the anti-ageing and workout-recovery market in Australia, a ‘wonder ingredient’ has been approved to be used in a product that will claim to completely disrupt the skincare industry.
Nicotinamide riboside (NR) has been approved as a listable substance by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), and the listing indicates that ChromaDex has market exclusivity of NR through December 2021.
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is an essential molecule our bodies need, but levels decline with everyday stressors such as overeating, heavy alcohol consumption, and daily environmental exposures. NAD also helps support muscle recovery after workouts.
Numerous studies of the use of NR – using both humans and mice as the subjects – have highlighted the benefits of using NA to supplement the body’s existing levels of NAD. Such studies found improved concentration of NAD in the body (up to 50%), and an improvement in cellular energy and repair.
ChromaDex has ascertained that people can restore NAD through fasting, high intensity interval training (HIIT) exercise and supplementation.
With that in mind, ChromaDex plans to release a revolutionary NAD anti-ageing product into the market next year. While the company has declined to share the product name or branding at this stage, it is being referred to as “the fountain of youth”, and, with the TGA approval, is now classified as legal and safe to use.
While specific details on the product – formulation, dosage, method of administering – are yet to be confirmed by ChromaDex, 2020 looks set to be the year clinicians may finally be able to offer clients that elusive fountain youth.
