The Fragrance Foundation Australia is calling for entries for the 2012 Jasmine Awards. The 10th annual Jasmine Awards recognises the contribution of beauty journalists to the fragrance industry. There are six award categories with the winner of each category automatically qualifying as a finalist for the prestigious Jasmine Award for Journalistic Excellence.
About the Jasmine Awards:
The Jasmine Awards recognise journalistic excellence in the fields of literary and visual achievement for articles on the subject of fragrance. The Jasmine Awards acknowledge journalists for their contribution in communicating their specialist knowledge and information of fragrance to the public as well as promoting the further discovery of fragrance to their readers.
The Jasmine Awards began in France over 20 years ago to recognise the ongoing contribution of journalists to the fragrance industry. Worldwide, the Jasmine Awards are the most highly recognised and prestigious awards for fragrance journalism and are held in counties such as France, Canada, USA and the UK. The Jasmine Awards were first held in Australia in 2003.
Award Categories:
Best In-depth Feature on Fragrance Award – for the best in-depth feature in a printed publication (minimum 501 words)
Best Short Feature on Fragrance Award – for the best short article in a printed publication (maximum 500 words)
Best Online Feature on Fragrance Award – for the best online article on fragrance published on an online beauty portal or beauty website ONLY
Best Blog Post on Fragrance Award – for the best personal blog post on fragrance published online (please note: entries must be written in a personalised style and in the 1st person)
Best Practical Guide to Fragrance Award – for the best ‘how-to’ style article in a printed publication or online
Best Visual Story on Fragrance Award – for the best visualisation of a fragrance story or pictorial feature in a printed publication or online
The winning journalist for each award category will receive a trophy, certificate and cheque for $1,000. For Best Visual Story on fragrance, the publication’s editor will nominate the journalist primarily responsible for the concept and design of the feature. The winner of each award category qualifies as a finalist for The Jasmine Award for Journalistic Excellence.
The Jasmine Award for Journalistic Excellence:
The Jasmine Award for Journalistic Excellence will be awarded to the journalist who submits the best fragrance story overall. All winners from the individual award categories will automatically qualify as finalists for the award. One winner will be announced and will be awarded a trophy, certificate and a return trip to Paris including flights and accommodation.
Entries:
Entry nominations are open to all Australian journalists and publications. To be eligible for an award articles must be authored by Australian-based journalists. An article can be nominated for more than award category, i.e. Best Short Feature on Fragrance Award and Best Visual Story on Fragrance Award, providing it fits the award criteria.
An article cannot be nominated for both the Best Online Feature and Best Blog Post on Fragrance Award. Entries written in a more personal style, in the first person and in a BLOG forum (either in a personal blog or on blog as part of a larger website or portal) must be submitted in the blog category only.
Entry Conditions:
To be eligible, entries must be original articles/pictorial features on the subject of fragrance, written specifically for the Australian market and have a published date in the Australian media between 1 January 2011 and 31 December 2011. Articles submitted for The Jasmine Awards may be reproduced by The Fragrance Foundation Australia for the purpose of the awards ceremony, promoting the awards program and as acknowledgment of award recipients.
Please note: ‘Published date’ is the publication on-counter date or the date an article first appeared online. Syndicated stories, advertorial reporting, advertising promotions and articles constituting just brand or product listings are excluded from entry.
Entry Submissions:
Submit six (6) originals (or high quality full size colour copies) of each article with a completed entry form (see attached) to the Fragrance Foundation Australia at the address shown below. For online and blog entries please include all subsequent comments posted in response to the feature and/or blog.
The deadline for submissions is 5.30pm Friday 10th February 2012.

Judging:
Judging will be conducted by a panel of independent judges selected by The Fragrance Foundation Australia. Judges will be aware of the media category (i.e. women’s lifestyle, trade, etc) however the identity of the writer and the publication/website will remain anonymous to the judging panel. The judges’ assessments are sent to independent auditors who check and compile marks to confirm the winners. The judges’ and auditors’ results are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Awards Ceremony:
The winners will be announced at The Fragrance Foundation 2012 Jasmine Awards ceremony held in Sydney in April 2012. The winner of The Jasmine Award for Journalistic Excellence will be expected to say a few words about the inspiration behind their winning article.
