On Wednesday May 18, The Australasian College Broadway hosted a presentation to award seven educators from the college the International Professional Standards Network (IPSN) Hairdressing Certification.
The seven educators were among the first in NSW, together with revered stylist Sharon Blain and Deborah French, to meet the IPSN criteria and be issued the certification.
The IPSN was created to improve the recognition, mobility and educational levels of skills, allowing professionals to work overseas. Australia, represented by Service Skills Australia, is one of four founding member countries alongside New Zealand, South Africa and Canada involved in IPSN.
Each participating country has mapped their hairdressing qualifications and industry recognition processes against an agreed benchmark. The purpose of this benchmarking is to assist individuals in having their qualifications and experience recognised by the industry in those countries that are members of the IPSN.
The first qualification rolled out was Hairdressing, with Beauty Therapy currently being finalised.
Chairman and Founding Director of Australasian College Broadway, Maureen Houssein-Mustafa OAM said she was thrilled to host the awards.
“This is the first step in gaining full international accreditation and recognition of hairdressing skills and qualifications globally. At the Australasian College Broadway we pride ourselves on training our students and up-skilling our educators to the highest standards and benchmarking these standards with the rest of the industry,” said Ms. Houssein-Mustafa.
To become eligible for IPSN International Hairdressing Certification, applicants must provide evidence of:
• A trade hairdressing qualification that includes skills in haircutting, hairstyling and chemical services for male and female clients
• 12 months commercial industry time (full-time equivalent) working as a independent hairdresser
• Their commitment to continuing their professional development in maintaining hairdressing technical skills
