In early May, Heart Kids NSW, a support group for families of children with heart disease, be it congenital (born with) or acquired, teamed up with the Australasian College Broadway, Australia’s leading private Hairdressing, MakeUp and Beauty College, to pamper twelve mothers in need of a little pick me up during what has been very difficult times for them and their families.
Students supervised by staff from the college went to Westmead Children’s Hospital and spoilt the Mums who don’t get a chance to leave the hospital often, let alone indulge in a beauty regime. Mum's had their hair styled, were treated to manicures and pedicures and had their make-up done.
Chairman and Founding Director of the Australasian College Broadway, Maureen Houssein-Mustafa OAM said that in running a successful business it is essential to support community and to give back as much as possible.
“Here at the College, we have always made it a high priority to be part of the community and assist wherever possible,” said Ms Houssein-Mustafa.
She further adds, “To give these mothers a chance to relax and smile is what it's all about. Our staff and students enjoyed spending time with them all so much last year, that we have signed up to helping out with pampering sessions on an annual basis. It really lifts the spirits of all those involved, both mums and our people who take part.”
Heart Kids NSW started as a voluntary group of parents and individuals dealing with and concerned about the day-to-day realities of raising and caring for children with cardiac conditions, and sometimes dealing with the loss of a child due to heart disease.
The Australasian College Broadway regularly gets involved with community initiatives. By teaming up with Heart Kids NSW annually, the College will be able to help a very important cause on a regular basis.
