The 2024 Australian Permanent Makeup Artists Conference (APMAC) was held in October at the stunning Cloudland in Fortitude Valley, QLD.
The biannual event went off without a hitch, despite a last-minute venue change due to a fire at the original venue, The Lussh at Wooloongabba, the month prior.
The brains and vision behind the conference, Jessika Brigginshaw and Georgie Wesley, hosted dozens of permanent makeup artists from across the country for the two-day event. On-stage talks and live demonstrations featured local and international PMU artists from Las Vegas, UK, and Ireland.
The full speaker line-up included:
- Monica Ivani on Nano Brows
- Nadine Lombard on Lip Saturation
- Vicky Martin on Aerola
- Lulu Siciliano on Dark Lip Neutralisation
- Jasmine Dibellus on Colour Theory
- Jess & Teryn on a Myth-Busting panel
- Omar Rodgriquez on SMP Tools and Techniques for Different Skin Types
- Leann La on AI and Content Creation
- and Alex Mechanici on Misty Powder Brows.
The event also operated a non-stop, interactive block featuring five artists demonstrating trending techniques, including:
- Teryn Darling on Eyeliner Full Saturation
- Hayley McGowan on Nano Brows and Hyper Realism
- Aleisha Gannon on Fine Line Tattoo
- Angie Simone on Microblading
- Talina Johnson on Brow Correction with Nano.
It was said Nano Brows is a notably popular technique amongst the PMU Industry as artists are able to achieve a more hyper-realistic design with quicker healing times for clients. It was recommended artists seek to elevate their cosmetic tattooing businesses by introducing Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) for both women and men. This is because 40% of women are said to be affected by female pattern hair loss (FPHL) throughout their lives. Guests were also provided tips on how to leverage AI for their beauty businesses by using Chat GPT for Social Media.
Other talks and demonstrations showcased how to master difficult brows and skin with multiple tattooing techniques. In addition, guests were shown how to convert lip blush into a lipstick-look with the correct tattooing angles and needle choices. Common PMU myths were also debunked.
Guests let their hair down at the bi-annual APMAC masquerade cocktail and awards event, hosted at The Emporium Terrace Bar on Southbank. An impressive $11,000 was also raised across the two days for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
