Adelaide-based Ocea Beauty Bar is participating in this Saturday’s Earth Hour – an annual event coordinated by WWF-Australia to raise awareness of climate change.
Ocea Beauty Bar will ‘power down’ for one hour on Saturday March 27 at 8:30pm by turning off essential lighting and machines, and unplugging appliances at the power point. And during trading hours on the Saturday, the salon will run on minimum energy in support of the event.
To mark the occasion, the salon is offering a special ‘Earth Hour Back Massage’ for $50, by candlelight available on Saturday March 27.
Ocea Cicchiello, owner, Ocea Beauty Bar, said: "We believe that it is important to act collectively as a community to create awareness of sustainability. We believe in the 'ripple effect': take responsibility and create small changes that inspires others to do the same, if not more. With everyone making small changes, the ripple soon becomes a wave!"
The Earth Hour campaign aims to encourage councils, households, schools, businesses and organisations to take practical everyday steps to reduce their environmental footprint.
“Earth Hour is an opportunity to demonstrate a commitment to tackling climate change,” Greg Bourne, CEO, WWF-Australia, said. “Earth Hour is driven by citizens and grassroots groups thinking globally and acting locally in the community.”
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when more than two million people turned off their lights. Since then, participants have grown progressively around the world. In 2009, numbers swelled to hundreds of millions as 4189 cities in 88 countries, as well as many of the world’s best known landmarks, participated.
