Last month, select beauty and aesthetics media were invited to an intimate morning tea to welcome Spanish skincare brand, ISDINCEUTICS (ISDIN) down-under. The event was held at Sydney’s QT Hotel.
Dermocosmetica will distribute ISDIN in Australia and New Zealand. George Kypreos, Founder and Managing Director of Dermocosmetica, was in attendance at the event. In addition, ISDIN Head of Export Javier Perez Carrion and Global Brand Manager, Berta Ochoa were also in attendance.
ISDIN first launched in Barcelona, Spain in 1975. The brand was brought about via a partnership between global beauty and pharmaceutical conglomerates PUIG and ESTEVE. By 2003, the brand had begun expanding outside of Europe. Today, ISDIN is present in 56 countries, with 14 subsidiaries and 43 export partners.
By the end of 2022, ISDIN reportedly closed with a valuation of €432m ($AUD717m). 62 per cent of ISDIN sales were made outside of Spain. The brand projects its value to reach €1b ($AUD1.66b) by 2026-27.
George said that before bringing a skincare brand into Australia, it needs to have innovative formulations, and be backed by science, technology and evidence. ISDIN, George said, meets that criterion. It is also said to have been the first Spanish laboratory to gain Bcorp certification.
Conversely, George noted, “you can’t be a global brand unless you have your skincare or your sunscreen in Australia”.
Dermocosmetica also launched Dermaceutic in Australia in 2023. Read about that here.
ISDIN was reportedly the first brand in Spain to utilise melatonin in a topical product. Today, the brand’s Retinal Intense, which contains retinaldehyde 0.1%, is said to be the number #1 vitamin A in Spain.
Dermocosmetica said the majority of the ISDIN line will be made available in Australia with an average price point of around $AUD125 per product. SKUs fall under four key product types: REJUVENATE, PREVENT, BRIGHTEN, and RENEW. Cleansing and Specific Care products are also available. The brand currently launches two to three products annually in Spain.
