Adorable is an Understatement: Perth Opens Its First Organic Baby Spa

This month, Perth saw the opening of its first organic baby spa under the helm of Carmen McNamara.

Little Sunshine Spa is located in Mount Hawthorn, 6 kms north-west of Perth’s CBD. The business will offer hydrotherapy and infant massage to clients between the ages of one week to nine months. The business will operate under the guidance of experienced skin practitioners.

The spa’s mission statement reads: Bond. Nurture. Soothe. Learn.

Carmen McNamara

Esteemed dermal therapist, Carmen McNamara is best known as the founder of Skin Fairy Clinics, located in two spaces across Perth. Carmen, a mother of three young children, opened Little Sunshine Spa in light of her commitment to “provide a relaxing and nurturing environment for both children and their parents, where we can educate on safe skincare options,” Carmen tells Professional Beauty.

“As a mother of three, I’ve experienced firsthand the confusion and concern about finding safe skincare options for my children. Despite my decade-long experience in the skin industry, I felt overwhelmed when it came to choosing the right products for my first baby six years ago. This personal journey highlighted a significant gap in the market, and I realised that other families in Perth were likely facing similar challenges,” Carmen says.

Skin Fairy Clinic was awarded DMK Clinic of the Year 2023. Read more on that here.

The organic baby spa provides a welcome space for parents to bring their little ones, while simultaneously introducing babies to a range of pure and gentle skincare solutions designed to cleanse and protect delicate skin. Carmen has elected 11 clean and organic skincare brands to utilise and stock at Little Sunshine Spa. All products are formulated specifically for infant and tween skin. “We offer skincare options such as SPF, BB creams, body wash, deodorant, body oils, and family skincare products, all chemical-free and safe. We also have fun gifts for children.”

Carmen adds, “our commitment is to offer high-quality, safe skincare accessible to as many families as possible, fostering healthier, happier communities!”

Services like hydrotherapy and massage help to “promote physical and emotional well-being” in babies, “aiding in relaxation, improving sleep, and enhancing circulation and digestion,” Carmen explains. “As a mother of three, this offering is a no-brainer. I know other families will only benefit from this also.”

“Hydrotherapy and massage can also strengthen the parent-child bond, support healthy growth and development, and alleviate common infant discomforts such as colic and gas. By nurturing infants in a gentle, natural way, we help foster a foundation of health and happiness from an early age! It’s truly so special.”

The organic baby spa was designed by Perth-based Interior Designer, Lizzie Boyle, who also designed Carmen’s Skin Fairy Clinics. The kitschy space combines pastel yellows and purples and a mix of textiles, from cosy ceiling-to-floor curtains to boucle-lined ottomans.

“Lizzie and I thought of doing something fresh, innovative and fun; something not confined to the gender norms of pink and blue. Purple and yellow actually represent and promote feelings of peacefulness and joy. I personally am so over pink for girls and blue for boys. Little Sunshine Spa represents this break in ‘traditional colours’. To me, colours have no gender – colours are colours,” Carmen says.

In the future, Carmen plans to expand Little Sunshine Spa across Perth and eventually throughout Australia.
