Raelene Mara, Founder & CEO of THE GOOD NAIL CO, shares her newest venture.
Professional Beauty: Raelene, we know you as the face behind much-loved professional makeup brand, MODELROCK. However, you launched a new brand entirely at this year’s Beauty Expo. Tell us all about it.
Raelene Mara: “I was so thrilled to launch THE GOOD NAIL CO at this year’s Beauty Expo! I realise it would have surprised many as a sister business to MODELROCK. But just as MODELROCK is the place to come for premium quality lashes and cosmetics, I would love for THE GOOD NAIL CO to become known as the go-to solution for salons wanting to provide their clients with convenient and effortless on-the-go manicures. The brand is perfect for those clients who are short on time or seeking a quick and stylish option.
We deliver premium press-on nails that are also reusable, allowing customers to effortlessly create their own salon-worthy manicure in just ten minutes! With time being a challenge these days, THE GOOD NAIL CO press-on nails are also amazing for anyone on the run or with a super busy lifestyle, who still want to always maintain a manicured look.
The beautifully manicured nails that ‘you’ create will stay flawless for over two weeks when applied with our Ultimate Bond nail glue. For a quick weekend getaway, a night out or an event, we also have our stick-on nail tabs for a temporary wear-time of one to three days.
We have 45 beautiful nail designs to choose from and each set includes everything you need for your quick 10-minute mani. Each set also has 30 inclusive nail sizes so you can always find your perfect fit, ensuring we are approaching beauty with that true feeling of inclusivity.”
PB: The look and feel of THE GOOD NAIL CO is very different to that of MODELROCK. Describe your vision behind this new brand, and what inspired you to get into nails?
RM: “THE GOOD NAIL CO was created from a simple desire to curate a collection of affordable, salon-quality press-on nails that would empower those who wear them. I wanted to curate a pretty, flirty and fun product in packaging separate to MODELROCK, that not only looks amazing on the shelf, but also delivers the high quality that MODELROCK has become renowned for.
As the founder, I encounter a daily challenge: I can’t wear face or eye makeup due to allergies. This led me on a quest to find a beauty product that suits me. I have always loved the look of beautiful salon-manicured nails, however working in a warehouse environment adds another layer of difficulty – constantly picking and packing customer orders and unpacking stock as it arrives wreaks havoc on my hands and nails.
I thought wearing beautiful nails was out-of-the-question, and regularly visiting nail salons wasn’t feasible either, as the time-consuming application process didn’t align with my busy schedule. So essentially, the inspiration behind THE GOOD NAIL CO was the realisation that there must be others like me who experience allergies to makeup but would still love to adorn themselves with stylish beauty products.
I wanted to deliver a solution that offers both creativity and style, with a touch of sophistication – just like a professional manicure. The turning point came when researching to find manufacturers and I found myself introduced to a range of beautiful, premium press-on nails. When testing the nails they not only defied my expectations by staying put throughout long working days, but also made me incredibly happy that I can now wear and enjoy a beauty product that I am not allergic to!”

PB: Press on nails are certainly having a moment, however we know they serve a different purpose to the services we receive in-salon. What are your hopes for THE GOOD NAIL CO? Do you anticipate the brand will penetrate the beauty salon market in much the same way MODELROCK has?
RM: “At MODELROCK, our mission has always been to listen to what our customers want and to redefine beauty. THE GOOD NAIL CO is a continuation of that vision. At this year’s Sydney Beauty Expo, we sold over 1200 nail packs. We also received valuable feedback from salon owners and makeup artists, saying how much they love the inclusive nail designs and the branding. This really confirmed for me the brand’s potential to flourish in the salon beauty market.
We understand that our industry is ever evolving, and we take great pride in inspiring both our clients and the makeup community. We are passionate about creating and developing innovative products that meet everyone’s needs. I envision salons incorporating THE GOOD NAIL CO as an ‘add-on’ service, offering their clients ‘express mani services’. With an application time of just 10-15 minutes, salons can cater to clients who are pressed for time or seeking quick results for special occasions. This allows clients to enjoy a salon-quality finish while supporting convenience. Our goal is to help salons provide an ‘express’ option for today’s busy lifestyles.”
