Are You Qualified to Spray Tan?

In order for your spray tanning course to be accredited, you need a trainer with TAE qualifications – Andrea Taylor explains the process required to become a qualified spray tanner.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

While spray tanning is not an area often covered by beauty courses, there is a sea of people, websites and institutions selling spray tanning-specific courses at a competitive rate that promises to turn students into ‘professional’ spray tanners. Words like ‘professional’ are often misleading as many of these courses are not recognised as an accredited qualification.

“In order for your spray tanning course to be accredited, you need a trainer with a TAE qualification (Certificate IV in Training and Assessment), which has been the mandate for workplace training and assessment since July 2013,” said Andrea Taylor, CEO of Mediterranean Tan.

Some may ask – “if a spray tanner is delivering to their customer needs what does it matter if their training was obtained from an unaccredited course or YouTube”?

Just like doctors, builder sand lawyers, beauty salons need insurance to protect their clients as well as themselves from personal injury and property damage. The truth is that employees with unaccredited training may not qualify for insurance protection – putting the salon, the technician and the clients at risk.

“Spray tanning is only safe when performed by trained industry professionals. In an accredited course technicians learn the proper technique for administering spray tanning solutions as well as how to operate all spray tanning equipment,” said Andrea.

“Accreditation is important to boost the industry and the technician’s professionalism and credibility.”
