The Asia Pacific Spa &Wellness Coalition (APSWC) has pledged to support Earth Hour this Saturday, March 27 for another year.
The APSWC is also holding its 4th Annual Strategic Forum at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand from March 25 to 26, and will dim the lights at specific periods during the forum, turn off or dim unnecessary lighting during presentations, and for the first time, host lunch breaks by candle light. The forum will focus on 2020 VISION: What will 'Wellness' look like in the Year 2020?
"Our goal is to keep our actions simple, create change for responsible leadership, and bridge actions within our spa and wellness community,” said Mary Darling, Planet Task Force co-chair.
More than 60 Shangri-La hotels and resorts worldwide will turn off their lights in most back-of-the-house areas and dim the lights in public areas, restaurants and hotel exteriors during Earth hour. Guests will be encouraged to participate by turning off the lights in their rooms. Shangri-La estimates that for each hour of shutting off or dimming lights per hotel, it can save up to 60 Megawatts of electricity, which is equivalent to providing the lighting energy requirements of a city of 500,000 residents for 24 hours.
