Since 1999, Aveda salons come together every April to organise fundraising events and support water aid projects. So far, more than $26 million have been raised worldwide.
In Australia, the Earth Month Charity Partner is WaterAid, which seeks the improvement of hygiene, sanitation and access to safe water in third world countries. 700,000 children die every year from diarrhea caused by unclean water and poor sanitation – that’s almost 2,000 child deaths a day.
Aveda would like to recognise the following salons and spas who showed outstanding commitment to the Earth Month cause: Mien Salon & Day Spa, Robertson Kirkwood and Prema. These three salons kicked off a 24-hour worldwide "Cut-a-thon" on Earth Day (April 22nd) and donated 100 per cent of service prices to WaterAid.
In Western Australia, two salons — Djurra and Element Aveda Concept Salon joined forces to host a "Walk for Water" Fashion Show with the support of local WA Fashion Designers. In one evening, they raised $3,400.
Meanwhile, in Byron Bay Sulis House of Lush hosted a "Cut-a-thon" where 100 per cent of service prices were donated to WaterAid.
