The Mask Academy of Make-up, Beauty, Nails and Hairdressing has announced the date and venue for their inaugural “Make-up Challenge” – May 24 at Burwood RSL in Sydney.
The competition categories have also been revealed. These are:
Student category: Modern Glamour
Professional category: Editorial
Runway – Autumn /Winter or Spring/Summer
Effortlessly Natural
All makeup students and professional makeup artists are invited to enter the competition.
Mask Academy Principal and CEO, Katherine Gosson, said she decided to start an industry makeup competition in response to requests from her students and trainers.
“I felt there was just a need for a bit more stimulation for [makeup artists],” she said.
The competition judges are all professional makeup artists, from industry areas including fashion and editorial, and they are not affiliated with Mask Academy, Gosson said.
All competition entrants will receive a certificate of participation as recognition of their involvement. First prizes for each category will include a trophy and makeup products donated from competition sponsors, including Kryolan. There will also be editorial on the event in Instyle hair industry magazine.
Held in conjunction with the competition, the Mask Make-up Trade Show will showcase new products, techniques and displays by leading makeup distributors.
Gosson said she anticipates that the competition and trade show will be a regular event if the first one goes well.
