Hair and Beauty Australia, in response to the industry’s frustrations and concerns regarding apprentices/trainees, have produced a reference tool called The Apprentice Edge to guide salons in the employment and management of apprentices and trainees from inception to completion.
It is an unfortunate fact that vacancy rates for apprenticeships/traineeships jobs are high, with a very low number of candidates to fill the positions. Alarmingly too is the high level of apprentices who never complete their training plan and leave the industry. Many employers are left disillusioned.
“HABA hopes this guide can assist employers in understanding today’s apprenticeship/traineeships and how to work within the current framework to get the best outcome for the employers and the apprentice/trainees,” said Vanessa Rengger, sales and marketing manager at HABA.
As an employer, working with your chosen Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and Apprenticeship Centre, understanding your obligations, rights and responsibilities will better equip you with everything you need to embark on today’s apprenticeship with confidence, enthusiasm and to ensure the result is a skilled tradesperson.
