Perth hair and fashion show, Skattwalk, returns for its fifth year on Saturday, March 28 at 7pm at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.
The brainchild of 24-year-old Skatt Salons owner, Lisa Grinceri, the event showcases the talent and creativity of the Skatt hair and makeup team in a “high energy” modelling dance show. This year’s Skattwalk features more than 100 models, local fashion designers and performers, promoting the best of WA talent. Local fashion designers Lin Pin, Tryst and Ros Jack have confirmed their involvement in the 2009 event, with more announced in late February.
Lisa Grinceri said she started Skattwalk as a way to celebrate the brilliance and talent of hairdressers and makeup artists. “I wanted the public and others within this industry to see these professionals as true artists and a significant part of the fashion world. Every Skatt staff member is highly encouraged and supported to be part of this show.
“When I started the company, one important goal was for all of Skatt’s team members to love working at Skatt and really play a part in making it a success, and Skattwalk is one way to help achieve this,” she added. “I also wanted the event to be an annual vehicle to showcase the best in WA talent to the hair, makeup and fashion industry. There is no other event like it in WA and there was an opportunity to make Skattwalk the biggest hair and fashion show ever seen in WA.”
Since the first event in 2004, drawing approximately 300 attendees, Skattwalk now attracts more than 1200 guests and over the years has secured high-profile sponsors including Wella, Napoleon and GHD.
“Most importantly, the staff love getting involved in the event; it is a great outlet for their passion and creativity and an excellent team-building exercise. The innovative designs they come up with continue to surprise and impress me [each] year,” Grinceri said.
2008 was a big year for Grinceri and Skatt. In November, the company opened two new stores, making four salons in total and revealing a new salon design; which led to new staff joining the team. In the same month, Grinceri also won the Business Manager of the Year award at the Fellowship for Australian Hairdressing Business and Wholesaler Awards. The awards recognise the best of the hairdressing industry, those who have excelled on all levels of business including customer care, public relations and marketing, and excellence in training.
