Dr Des Fernandes and Dr Matthias Aust will be hosting a Skin Needling Workshop this September in South Africa.
As a part of the 3rd Annual Congress Sun City 2014 in South Africa, Dr Fernandes and Dr Aust will be directing a Percutaneous Collage Induction Workshop on skin needling on Sunday September 7 between 12pm-5pm.
“Skin needling has come a long way since Andre Camirand from Canada first lectured in early 1990’s about using a simple tattooing device to make scars less obvious. When I did my very first presentation on my 3 year experience in about 100 cases at the International Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS) conference in San Francisco in June, 1999, people did not understand the role of platelets and growth factors and they thought that I was crazy to propose such a barbaric treatment. Fortunately, we have moved on and today many doctors have realised the value of skin needling in treating acne scars, burn scars, wrinkles, lax skin, stretch marks, and donor site scars etc. etc. Needling has also allowed us to re-activate the regenerative cascade and completely heal chronic ulcers. I am sure more and more uses for needling will be uncovered.
It does not matter what device one uses. We are all pricking the skin and the total number of bleeding points determines the result. We are also finding out more about the timing of intervention. Research has also confirmed that topical vitamin A and C before and after skin needling almost doubles the effects but there must be other important molecules that can drive the system to an even better result. We are all striving for the best result.
Matthias Aust and I invite you to come to the third DASIL meeting at Sun City from 7 – 10th September and join the first gathering of international experts on needling and learn more about this exciting method to regenerate tissue. We will run a hands-on course of needling various areas of the face and body with specially selected volunteers so for those who do not know enough about needling, we can offer training as well as information from the world’s most knowledgeable researchers. Hopefully we will form the International CIT (Collagen Induction Therapy) Society at the same meeting,” – Dr Des Fernandes.
International experts in skin needling will be speaking at this rare event. Experts include both hosts, Moetaz El-Domyati, and Gabriella Fabbrocini.
Topics covered include:
– Defining the ideal cases for skin needling
– What is new in the understanding of the physiology of needling
– Ways to get better results from needling – peptides, PRP and others
– Preoperative and postoperative care
– Hands-on experience of needling
– Video of 1mm and 3mm needling case
This congress workshop will be held onsite at the Sun City Resort, South Africa, in their clinic.
Cost: $30 per attendee
