You’ve got to be moved by the emotion on Jess Mauboy’s face. She’s pouring her heart and soul into that performance, just as you and your salon team pour your heart and your soul into the relationships and trust you establish with your clients.
If you look up the ‘active ingredients’ of music licensing body OneMusic Australia you’ll see two Australian music rights management organisations who have been around for a long time – APRA AMCOS (since 1926) and PPCA (since 1969). They have combined to create a ‘new formulation’ winner 2019.
This launch will make securing legal permission to use music in all businesses – including beauty salons and day spas – easy.
Salon owners can go to one place onemusic.com.au and obtain a licence for music they’re using – plus get some great tips on how to tweak the music in their salons to make clients more patient, more relaxed and to get the cash register ringing with post-treatment product sales (Hint: see Music Tips)!
A OneMusic Retail and Service Provider licence offers enormous benefits with a huge cut in red tape and admin time with simple background music fees with packages starting at $85 and easy add-on options for telephone on hold and website music.
While Jess Mauboy is a home-grown music creator, the OneMusic licence system gives legal access to a worldwide collection of music, so whether you are playing Jess, Pete Murray, Beyonce, Adele or Cold Play, the music creators will benefit from your licence fee payment because of international payment arrangements.
What will it cost? You’ll only pay for the music you’re using. Here’s an example. Felicity’s Day Spa has decided to use a personal digital music service (Spotify) to provide the background music in their salon (they have been advised that this use may still be in breach of Spotify’s end user agreement which they would need to double check). They don’t have a website and don’t have any telephone on hold music. The salon has a retail area of 38 square metres. Their annual licence from OneMusic Australia for Background Music for Retail (Gold Package) in the 1-50 square metres salon size category is $476 or around $1.30 a day.
The Retail and Service Providers licence scheme is designed for those selling goods (fashion stores, newsagents, convenience stores, homewares stores or stationery etc) as well as those selling services (hair and beauty salons, masseurs and physiotherapists etc).
