The Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia (CPCA) says that while it welcomes the government’s three-step plan to ease restrictions and enable the staged reopening of cosmetic clinics across Australia, there is no room for complacency.
The CPCA has outlined its safe practice protocols on its website cpca.net.au to provide assistance to anyone considering seeking cosmetic medical procedures during the easing process. It includes specified protocols for cosmetic physicians such as patient temperature checks, social distancing measures as well as providing discretionary access to gloves, face mask and tissues for the patient (unless examination of peri oral region is required) and standard surgical masks and PPE to be worn by the health practitioner as well as clean single use gloves, and scrubs.
“There is no room for complacency with the easing of current restrictions, which will remain in place, as they are still serving an essential purpose. However, it is an encouraging sign that the harsh measures and sacrifices Australians have made, are beginning to pay off,” said Dr Michael Molton, President of the CPCA.
Importantly, the CPCA has detailed FAQs specific to the patient about cosmetic medicine in this current environment. These include: how the patient can be assured the health practitioner and staff do not have COVID19; whether it is safe to undergo cosmetic medical procedures at this time; if cosmetic injections could make the patient more susceptible to the virus; identifying side effects from the procedure as opposed to COVID19 symptoms; and the importance of attaining clinic contact details for any post-treatment questions.
