The Service NSW app has been given a reboot to include a QR code, allowing customers to check in at businesses across the state, allowing contact tracers to quickly access customer details in the event of any patrons testing positive.
Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said customers of Service NSW – of which there are over five million – should download the latest version of the app to gain access to the service.
“The app is safe, easy to use and helps NSW Health officials contact customers quicker in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak by providing them with more accurate records. The check-in automatically captures the date, time and location, and securely stores them on a NSW Government database for the sole purpose of contact tracing. After 28 days, the data is destroyed.”
Mr Dominello said the government will work closely with industry to encourage them to adopt the free QR code offering, as it makes it simple for businesses to meet the obligations under the Public Health Orders. “This is another example of the government delivering data infrastructure to help customers and businesses get on with day to day life as we navigate a safe path through this pandemic.”
Currently, all beauty salons in NSW must have a COVID-19 Safety Plan. The State Government recommends all business register as being COVID Safe. When they do register, businesses will be sent an email with their unique QR code from Service NSW, which can be used to take part in the free tracing program.
