It’s not difficult to see why IMATS is touted as the makeup artist’s version of Christmas. Last weekend saw Moore Park’s Royal Hall of Industry transformed into a beauty bazaar, with exhibitions and talks from a variety of acclaimed Australian and international brands and artists.
Kryolan, MAC pro, Make Up Store, Real Techniques, Designer Makeup Tools and Cinema Secrets all showcased their latest products and techniques, with makeup artists taking to the crowd to show off this season’s latest looks.
Classes on fashion, editorial, film and TV-makeup were held throughout the day, while keynote Nicole Thompson (M.A.C Pro), Angela Conte (Kryolan) and Melissa Sassine (MODELROCK Lashes) addressed the crowd on contouring, high-definition airbrushing and makeup as an art form.
Lesley Vanderwalt of Mad Max, The Great Gatsby and Australia fame discussed her BAFTA and Oscar-winning makeup moments before beauty expert Roque Cozzette demonstrated how to create vivid colour for photography.
Rae Morris shared her predictions for 2017 beauty trends before treating the audience to a live step-by-step beauty tutorial, while burgeoning makeup artists created unimaginable prosthetics for Battle of the Brushes.
Enhancing the emphasis on theatrical makeup, world-renowned and award-winning company Odd Studio brought their character design skills to the stage during a live demonstration with directors Adam Johansen and Damian Martin, who have collective worked on Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Mad Max: Fury Road.
IMATS Sydney once again showed it’s one of the best places to restock your kit, with local and international makeup brands showcasing and selling their latest products.
The two-day event has been running since 2009 and has steadily grown established itself as an inspiration and equipment leader in the makeup and beauty industry.
