Melbourne salons to open tomorrow

Melbourne salon owners are gearing up to throw open their doors in the morning, after last night’s announcement from Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed their lockdown would cease at 11.59pm tonight.

Hopes of an eased lockdown in Victoria had been put on ice over the weekend by Mr Andrews as the state dealt with a minor Covid-19 outbreak in the city’s Northern metro area.

Mr Andrews labelled it a “cautious pause”, but offered some hope that an announcement on easing could be made in the following days.

And on Monday afternoon, salon owners got the news they had waited 112 days for. With zero cases recorded for the first time since June, Mr Andrews announced beauty services were free to re-open from Wednesday morning.

“In 24 hours we have been able to process 14,024 tests…and not a single new case has been found,” he said. “These results give us confidence that we are firmly on top of this virus.”

The premier went on to announce that beauty services are able to re-open “as long as masks are worn.”

Let’s hear it for Melbourne!
