Prime Minister Scott Morrison outlined his plan to re-open the economy, at this latest press conference, and a plan to re-boot the beauty industry in on the cards.
Explaining the ‘three step’ process to getting the country up and running, the Prime Minister revealed that the re-opening of beauty salons fell into stage two, which would only be utilised if and when stage one was completed satisfactorily.
While stage one, will see retail stores re-open, and cafes and restaurants permitted to seat ten customers at a time, the four-square-metre rule will still be in place, meaning that there is to be no physical contact between business owners and their clients.
If, after an undefined period, the cases of community-transmitted Coronavirus remain low, the country will be moved into ‘step two’, which will see beauty salons permitted to re-open. Salons will be permitted to have no more than 20 customers at a time, and must record all contact details of every customer that is booked. This will assist the government in tracking down individuals if a virus outbreak occurs. It is also encouraged that salon owners should urge all customers to download the COVIDsafe app at the time of booking.
While Scott Morrison did not provide any definite dates or timeline for when the steps would progress or take place, he did say that he would expect that Australia would be ready to move onto ‘step three’ – which would see life returning somewhat to normal, with social gatherings of up to 100 people allowed – by July.
